ELEGY
BIO
Death Has Spoken emerged from the shadows of Poland's metal underground in early 2017, carving a distinctive path through the bleak landscapes of death-doom. Originally formed in Białystok as a one-off studio project, the band quickly transformed into a full-fledged entity following the recording—and warm reception—of their debut album, 'Fade'. Drawing inspiration from the genre’s early pioneers, Death Has Spoken blends melancholic melodies with crushing heaviness, echoing the despair and darkness that have come to define their musical identity.
Their debut album, 'Fade' (2017), marked the beginning of Death Has Spoken’s journey into the depths of slow, heavy, and emotionally charged music. Built around sorrowful melodies and thick, weighty riffs, the album delved into themes of mortality and the unknown, exploring the timeless question: is death truly an end, or just the beginning? The lyrics, loosely inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s works, added a haunting touch to their sound.
In 2020, Death Has Spoken released single 'Downfall' as part of the split EP 'Unyielding', collaborating with other artists in the Polish doom metal scene. This release offered a glimpse of the band’s evolving style and set the stage for their next chapter.
With 2021's second full-length, 'Call of the Abyss', the band stepped further into the gloom—deepening their exploration of existential dread. The album, rooted in the atmospheric depths of '90s doom/death and the second wave of black metal, paid homage to Lovecraftian visions of madness and mystery.
In 2022, Death Has Spoken paid tribute to one of their most significant influences, Katatonia, by releasing a cover of the iconic track 'Brave'. The following year, 2023, they ventured into new sonic territories with the synthwave-infused split EP 'Doomed to Gloom', further expanding their musical horizons while retaining their signature melancholic essence.
'Elegy' – A New Chapter of Darkness
In 2025, Death Has Spoken is joining forces with Meuse Music Records to release their third full-length album, 'Elegy' — a defining moment in their artistic evolution. Both lyrically and stylistically, the album serves not only as a continuation but as the conclusion of the journey begun with 'Fade' and 'Call of the Abyss'. Expanding on reflections of the passage into the unknown and beyond, Elegy ties together themes explored in its predecessors while presenting a darker, more refined, and intensely focused sound. The compositions showcase a band that has evolved its songwriting while staying true to its raw and intense energy. As a tribute to one of their most profound influences, Elegy includes a bonus track: Our Fortress Is Burning... II – Bloodbirds by Agalloch.
With 'Elegy' set for release in fall 2025, Death Has Spoken remains dedicated to exploring the depths of human emotion and the abyss that lies beyond, inviting listeners to join them on this unending journey into darkness.

"Elegy" 8/10
This was a dreadfully delightful album, and the sheer weight of the songs, infused with supporting emotion, leaves the listener feeling drained, and hopeless. It was an intense listening experience, in terms of each song piling on more and more burden on your already frail back. Take a trip into the desperate mind of “Elegy” and you will see what is on the other side.

With their third album, the Poles from Death Has Spoken step a bit outside of their habits, coloring their melancholic doom/death with atmospheric post-black influences. Thus hybridized, the combo's music is enriched with an impressive contrast that reinforces the darkest passages and gives them a hint of false aggression. The melancholy is elevated for a complete immersion...

Death Has Spoken allows itself increasingly dark touches in its melancholy, tinging its heaviness with icy sounds. Elegy brings forth its suffering and cultivates it with an intoxicating naturalness in our minds.

A solid album, bringing back nostalgia, but welded with modern production and developed songwriting to show distinctive progression. A must listen for any doom, prog or black metal fan.

"Call of the Abyss" 8.5/10
Death Has Spoken have created a truely awe-inspiring album that has totally captured my imagination. They have a big sound for a 4 piece, the recording is spot on and you notice different elements on each repeat listen. Call Of The Abyss will become part of my collection as I feel I still have more to discover on this despite multiple listens already and I very much look forward to hearing more from them.

"Fade" 8/10
It has everything you can expect from death / doom metal music. There are emotions, disturbing notes, melancholic melodies and heavyness at the same time. Paradise Lost, Novembers Doom, Swallow the Sun fans can easily reach for this album. And not only them, because Fade is a remarkable release. May there be more such debuts.
